The Wire

April 1998[4]

[...] For the week that Conrad's music is featured in the Out of Action show, his diary is full: evenings devoted to his film and video work, studio visits at nearby CalArts, and even a live date at Spaceland, the reigning venue-of-the-season in perennially bohemian Silver Lake. Here, Conrad and Galenscer take the stage following a lengthy set by Mayo Thompson's Red Krayola. The room is packed with art college refugees and superannuated punks eager to experience a rare appearance by a musician who, despite his recognition as an instigator of specific forms of musical investigation, seems to have deliberately avoided scrutiny and broader exposure. Tony Conrad playing at Spaceland in Los Feliz, LA .Sometime in the mid 90's. Red Crayola also played that show. I had interviewed him earlier in the day at MOCA and Mayo showed up with one of his Art Center classes- they sat in on my interview and actually got into a argument over the Pathagarean theory . Good times. I liked Tony a lot. Good sense of humor and knew so much . I used to run into him quite a bit in New York. Often near 6th street where the Indian musicians would be playing in the front windows at eating establishments
